20 down, 10 (or so) to go!
At 30 weeks, Sweet Pea is the size of a cabbage – about 15.7 inches in length and weighing around 3 pounds. His brain is also starting to control temperature regulation and his grip is strong enough to grasp a finger! (source, source)
It’s so nice to be counting in the 30s now. I feel like the end is in sight and can’t believe we’ll be meeting Sweet Pea so soon. I’ve been having lots of pregnancy dreams lately and most of them involve breastfeeding. I’m excited to nurse and also curious what it will feel like as I’ve heard it can be somewhat painful in the beginning, especially if the baby isn’t latching correctly. In my dreams, though, nursing always goes smoothly and I’m happily surprised that it’s pain free. Let’s hope that’s a sign of good things to come!
The 30s officially kicked off with a pregnancy-filled weekend. I went to my first chiropractor appointment on Saturday and also saw the movie What to Expect While You’re Expecting later that day – with three other pregnant friends, no less. We’re all roughly six weeks apart from each other and have due dates in June, July, September and October.
I’ve also noticed that I’m not as ravenously hungry as I used to be. As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I pretty much had to have breakfast immediately upon waking. Nowadays, I can actually take a shower first and have my breakfast afterwards, or just wait until I get to work to eat.
Kevin and I also had an ultrasound yesterday at 30 weeks and 6 days. (Yes, I know. I’m late once again with the weekly updates!). We found out that Sweet Pea is currently in the breech position and weighing in at approximately 3 pounds and 14 ounces. That’s nearly 4 pounds of baby!
My midwife said the measurement puts Sweet Pea in the 55th percentile for weight, so he’s just above average. My amniotic fluid levels were also within the normal range as well. As the weeks continue, the amniotic fluid will actually begin to decrease as Sweet Pea prepares for delivery. We’re almost there, folks!
Total Weight Gain: 1.5 pounds, totaling 22.
Gender Ideas: One of my breastfeeding dreams featured Sweet Pea as a girl this week! In the other dreams, the gender was never revealed.
Baby Stuff Bought: We used a few gift cards from the baby shower and bought our car seat. Next step, installing it in the car!
Cravings: This strawberry bread. Oh, I could eat an entire loaf in one sitting.
